Corn holing: Bag Edge Technology

It has been about 18 months since the ACA introduced their new bag technology which includes a patent pending side wall. Is the new tech catching on? Let’s dive in and find out.

What is Cornhole Bag Edge Technology?

What Are The Benefits of It?

Is The Technology Catching On?

What is Corn Hole Bag Edge Technology?

The new cornhole bag edge technology is a patent-pending feature that provides a distinctive sidewall edge and radiused cornerns.

This edge redefines the overall shape of the bag as shown in the above graphic and surely affects the flight and stance of it on the cornhole board. For more on the flight of the bag and the physics of cornhole see our blog post on Mastering the Physics of Cornhole: The Science Behind Winning Throws.

According to the synergy touring pro product page, the new style bag, “allows the cornhole bag to remain flat and even while throwing to create a more consistent cornhole shot” and makes these shots [block and push shots] easier to execute and control”. There is no doubt the new shape is revolutionary. The bags will surely feel and fly differently than more traditional bags and this advancement could be as impactful as the switch from traditional corn kernels to synthetic resin pellets for the fill. Both changed the feel and flight of the bag and bags may never be the same after this advancement in technology.

What are the benefits of it?

The edge technology is made of a “ ~1/2-inch piece of microsuede fabric” that is sewn onto the perimeter of the cornhole bag and give a solidity that other bags simply do not have. With a dual-sided fabric construction, these bags also provide the flexibility of legacy designs for a balance of grip and glide.

Here are some of the benefits of the new cornhole bag edge technology as described on their amazon page:

Increased control: The edge technology helps to keep the bag flat and even while throwing, which results in more consistent shots.

Enhanced blocking: The edge can be used to block opponents' shots or to push their bags out of the way.

Improved pushing: The edge can be used to push bags into the hole, even if they are not directly on the edge of the board.

More strategic gameplay: The edge technology opens up new possibilities for strategic play, such as the "block shot" and the "push shot."

The edge technology is a new and innovative way to improve the game of cornhole. It provides players with more control and strategy, making every toss a potential game-changer. The edge technology is only available on the Synergy Touring Pro cornhole bags, which are approved by the American Cornhole Association for tournament and competitive play.

While it is hard to say for sure, it does not appear that the new bags have had a rapid adoption yet but word could still be getting out about the new technology. It could be your secret weapon for gaining a competitive edge if you are one of the early adopters. I suspect that some folks have not made the switch yet because they are more comfortable with the traditional bag style. However, that is not to say these new bags do not have a distinct advantage. Combing through some recent youtube videos it appears most pros are still using the more traditional style BG cornhole bags, Gladiator cornhole bags, or others. However, it will only take 1 pro to make the switch, have some success, and then look out because this new bag technology could proliferate very quickly soon.
